Harriet is ill! And I am reading Emma Donoghue’s Room! These two factors conspiring to eat up all my time, take away my sleep, and make me incredibly conscious of how everything I say and do shapes my child’s world.

I just read Room, much of it with my baby nursing in my arms, and am still feeling gutted and wrung inside out and transformed by it. Not to mention chastened for all the times I don’t manage to be fully present and engaged with my children.
