Certainty wins
The best book wins again. (We’ll find out this week if it could happen for the Gillers too). Yes, because Madeleine Thien’s Certainity has won the Amazon Books in Canada First Novel Award. Deservingly– her novel is wonderful, and if you haven’t read it yet you should do so. I read it earlier this year and its power hasn’t left me yet.
I’m pleased for Thien, although I edited one of her competitors (Adam Lewis Schroeder), so I was admittedly biased this time ’round.
I’ll pick up Certainty, certainly, and add it to the increasingly unwieldy stack of books to read asap.
Sometimes the unwieldy stack overwhelms me, but then I get to thinking: wouldn’t it be worse if it were gone? We’re lucky, really, to have such a wealth of goodness to choose from.
