City Noel
Living in the city and not having a car, we have always brought our Christmas trees home quite conspicuously, carried on our shoulders (which is a bit awkward when pushing a stroller or carrying a baby, but we’ve made it happen in all these circumstances). And that is part of the reason I am so enamoured with the Christmas cards I’ve bought this year, which show another quite ingenious method for bringing home Christmas in the city. These cards are by Wendy Tancock, whose site is here. The image is beautiful and who doesn’t love a streetcar? I’m due to start writing a pile tonight
I’m considering the best way to bring our tree home too. Drag it? It’s only a couple of blocks and then we will for sure have a Charlie Brown tree (a good thing). Also love love love the cards.
I love the card and just went to the artist’s site and am now in love with so many of them.
We always get a Charlie Brown tree and so carrying it home is awkward but not impossible.
At my son’s old elementary school they have a lovely tradition of the grades 7s walking to Rona Lumber (about 6 or 7 blocks), picking out a huge tree for the office, and then carrying it back to school hoisted on high.
The next best thing to heading out into the forest with an axe, I guess!
That’s a very “city” tree–it’s a great card.
One Christmas in New Brunswick a friend offered our young son a fresh cut tree from his property. We went out to his place and it turned out he planned to cut down a forty foot tree and then top it for him. This was overwhelming enough but it took three or four tries before he was satisfied with the look of the treetop-tree once it came to ground.
I like Zsuzsi’s story of the school children hoisting the tree back to the school!
