Spam in the post!

Today was amazing because I received spam in the post! A letter from Patricia Besupa Zatal, manager of a South African prime bank. She wants me to handle some kind of complicated financial transaction and feels comfortable dealing with me having already gone through my impressive profile by my country’s Chamber of Commerce. So exciting. They’re even going to give me a cut. So basically, I’m thinking about retirement.

It’s all very 1992– has Patricia never heard of the internet? What they had to have spent on stamps boggles the mind, and I can’t help worrying they might not make it back. I will also keep the stamp– South African stamps mailed my con-artists don’t arrive every day. And I’ve hung the letter on the fridge. I’m very honoured to be a part of this project and excited to see what happens going forward.

  2. patricia says:

That is astounding. I would love to receive such a letter. This Patricia obviously knew how much you enjoy getting little surprises in the mail..

  3. Sunny says:

We received the same letter & the same stamp!! Can’t believe how gullible Ms Zatal thinks we Canadians must be! LOL! Your fridge is the best place for this. But, how were our names & correct addresses actually chosen? I wish winning the lottery was so easy!

  4. Stuart says:

I can’t believe that we got spam in the post!

When do we start receiving mail offering us discount medication?

  5. francis says:

Received the same letter. I grew up in South Africa, so I was very excited. Only to be mildly let down but also entertained.

Got a good giggle out of it though.

  6. mark walmsley says:

received one today also..get to see we decorate our fridges the same way!!

  7. I also received the letter and actually called the woman’s husband as she suggested. Well worth the long distance charges. Most fum I’ve had in awhile!

  8. foobert says:

I am so disappointed. I thought I was the only one to be honoured this way.

I remember a talk show segment where someone played back a call made to one of these scam artists. Strung them along and only mentioned just before hanging up that the call was going out on a national radio program.

  9. Pablo says:

    I also received the letter.

  10. Leticia says:

    Amazing!
I received the same letter today in Chile. I wonder if this lady has spent money to send letters to everyone! and the craziest of all is that we ended up finding out anyway on the internet to see if it is real.
we will be connected in some way?.

    1. Kerry says:

I love the idea that we’ve all been specially chosen for some reason or another. Like Patricia did vet us very carefully through our countries’ chambers of commerce, and we are all indeed connected. How we are connected will become clear as the narrative unfolds!

  11. Patty says:

    I also received this letter
    Peru

  12. M. E. Robinson says:

I’m thinking of showing the letter I received from Patricia to my local police precint if for no reason except to give them a laugh. What kind of bank is this lady managing? Sounds like something out of a really bad movie.

  13. Geri says:

I just received my very exlusive letter based on trust and confidentiality from South Africa today. As an English teacher, you can only imnagine what the copy of my letter looks like on the fridge! Seriously though, agree with M.E Robinson…. This should be reported to prevent the gullible from being taken.

  14. Don says:

Dang it!!! From looking at the postings my 25% of the 118 million (pinky stuck in the side of my mouth….Dr. Evil reference) is going to be shared with others. LOL

I’m located in Oregon (USA) and received the letter today (05/19/10)

  15. Kerry says:

I got it first, Don! I’ve got dibs on the millions!!

  16. Felix says:

I received mine a couple of days ago or so and she says she and her husband are indeendent brokers to African fund investors wanting to partner with me in developing a possible biz investment.

Maybe she wants to invest in clean energy knowing how pro-active the Harper govt is on addressing climate change?

  17. Rick says:

USA, i also received a letter from Mrs Zatal..

  18. george says:

I just got the letter here in Rowley, Mass (usa)and was also offered 25% of 118 million for no apparent reason. this appears to be an attempt at idenity fraud, mail fraud and could lead to the lost of my state pension if I particupated in a foreign fraud to the Unclaimed funds belonging to the South Africa State Treasurer ( Massachusett State Ethics Commission). As a retired supervising field auditor for the Commonthwealth of Massachusetts, State Auditors Office, I can tell by unprofessional language, lack of any letter head, lack of return envelope, and no return address that the offer was invalid.

  19. Floyd A says:

Yea, I got this EXACT mail today. I’m only 18 and I’m sure “my country’s chamber of commerce and industry” is keeping an eye on me. Along with everything else there are typos everywhere, everything is in caps, the signature looks like some kid did it in MS paint and as you can see, it’s been sent to lots of people. I wish there was a return mailing address though…
